Sedation Dentistry

IV sedation is a safe and reliable way to make you feel relaxed for your dental treatment whether you are nervous about all dental treatment or are having a prolonged or difficult procedure like wisdom teeth extractions.

You are unlikely to remember much about your dental procedure because of two factors:

  • Firstly, in most people, IV sedation induces a state of deep relaxation and a feeling of ease with what's going on.
  • Secondly, the drug used for IV sedation can produce either partial or full memory loss (amnesia) for the period of time from when the drug starts to take effect until it wears off.

As a result, time will appear to pass very quickly and you will not recall much, or perhaps even nothing at all, of what happened. So it may, indeed, appear as if you were "asleep" during the procedure.

IV sedation is carried out by putting a drug called midazolam into a vein in the back of your hand or into the bend of your arm. You gradually become more relaxed and are no longer anxious about having your dental treatment done.

Dental sedation is available as an NHS treatment or privately. Call us now to arrange a free sedation assessment with one of our dentists.
